Gripper Design
Suen pui lam 's independent study
Data observation and collection
14 samples are collected
We design the gripper and determine its parameters based on the specifications of LG7 bowls, plates and cups.

Prototypes

1
-
large surface area
-
extend catching area - avoid collision
-
friction (Polygon)
-
screw to install
-
shrape corner for good picking effect

2
-
2 point contacting
-
steep slope to slide up the plate

Result
Design 1
Surface Area
-
Some curved surface object will slip away if the alignment is not perfect
-
need manual alignment
-
Better for large object handling
Design 2
V shape design
-
need some vertical extension that allow gripper to handle tall object(cups)
-
hard to handle heavy object
-
better for object with irregular patterns
Materials
We consider different material for the gripper

Food gade silicone
Advantages: Flexible, mark-free,better friction, resistant to high/low temps & corrosion, meets FDA/EC standards.
Disavantages: Difficult to print, require a mold, too soft

TPU
Advantages: Superior wear & tear resistance compared to silicone; longer service life.
Disavantages: Too slipery, printing problem, too easy to bend

Multi material
Food grade silicone + ABS
Advantages: bend resistance, better adaptbility
