Using 2D scissor structure to act as a self-locking mechanism to enhance the strength.

Moreover, by adjusting the pivot position of the sicssor structure allow the structure to bend to a designated shape.

Pros: simple structure, robust, easy to maintain, cheap.

Cons: covers/shells required, moving structures can be dangerous, shape is fixed.

Solution 2

Using grow robots/vine robots to act as a barrier.

Soft robotics can be more flexible compared to scissor structures. It can bend to any direction at any degree.

Pros: less moving parts on the outside, more DOF, flexible, safer?

Cons: might be more expensive, potential deflation risk, not as robust as the former structure
